Keep in mind the taste of Tay Ninh shrimp salt

In my memory, I’d always looked forward to the summer to visit my hometown when I was a child. The hometown was not as luxurious as my current place, but it has its own taste, where all the things are created handedly. In the myriad of things my grandmother had made, I’d never forget the pungent smell, mixed with the salty dried shrimp of shrimp salt. On that day, to me, the shrimp salt she made was really a premium product, and I thought it would be hard to keep the taste of the salt.

Nowadays, Tay Ninh shrimp salt has become a popular thing. If anyone asks me the difference of taste between Tay Ninh shrimp salt and other types of salt, here is my explanation to convince everone: shrimp salt is salty but its degree is below than iodine salt’s or normal one’s, it has the taste of sea and wind in the shrimp, spicy taste on the tongue tip, it makes us afraid to eat but once we taste, it’d be unable to stop.

Tay Ninh shrimp salts not only reminds me of a memorable childhood, but also of the fruits making me drool whenever it get mentioned, in countless fruits eaten with shrimp salt such as: Guava, jew plum, mango, plum, cherry...I love mango most; when I was a kid, I loved picking fallen young mangoes, I washed and smashed the mangoes, put some shrimp salt made by my grandma into the jar with the fruit, finely shake the jar for the spicy salty flavor of the Tay Ninh shrimp salt soaking into each piece of young mango; the proud thing is that my finished product was always supported by my family, that’s why shaken mangoes and shrimp salt “made by me” had never been left over.

I have got much older, been busy with work and daily life, the span between my visits to hometown has also get longer which makes me miss my granny and her Tay Ninh shrimp salt a lot. Luckily, it’s not hard to find a original jar of Tay Ninh shrimp salt nowadays. There are more and more company trading rice paper and shrimp salt, yet it’s still difficult to find a place producing true Tay Ninh shrimp salt, since the false Tay Ninh shrimp salt will not be spotted between other types of chili salts and shrimp salt. Fortunately, in a search for the taste of the hometown I have found and tried the chili Tay Ninh shrimp salt shrimp of Tanisa Company… And, certainly, the taste of my hometown got back, so did the urge to arrange my work then go back to my hometown again.
